Chinese solar PV power has huge potential of development. With the active and stable policy support, the capacity of photovoltaic installation will reach 100 million kilowatts by 2030 and the annual generation will achieve 1,300kwh, equivalent to reducing the construction of more than 30 large-scale coal-fired power plants.
Recently, the World Solar Energy Conference has been held in Beijing. Association of Resources Comprehensive Utilization and Renewable Energy Professional Committee of China, Greenpeace, the European Photovoltaic Industry Association, and the World Wide Fund for Nature have jointly issued the "China Development Report of PV". The report predicts that by 2030 or so, photovoltaic power generation will have the ability to compete with the conventional power generation in term of prices, and gradually becomes the mainstream form of energy use.
At present, China has been one of the world's three major countries producing solar energy photovoltaic cells; however, 90% of the photovoltaic products are exported to foreign markets such as Europe, the United States, Japan and so on. Domestic solar PV applications are mainly concentrated in rural electrification and off-grid solar photovoltaic products. A real grid-based solar PV market has not yet been formed.
